Women's Swimming and Diving Leads Iowa, Trails Ohio State After Day One Of Shamrock Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame junior diver Jenny Chiang (3-meter dive) and freshman Emma Reaney (200 IM) each won their respective events to lead the Irish on day one of the Shamrock Invitational at Rolfs Aquatic Center. After one session, Notre Dame leads Iowa, 66-44, and trails Ohio State, 67-40.

Session two gets underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with the evening session beginning at 5 p.m.

Reaney cruised past the field in the 200 IM to improve her IM record to 10-0 this season in her first year in the Notre Dame blue and gold.

Chiang has now won three 3-meter crowns this year as she looks to win her third BIG EAST title in the event.

The relay teams also performed well, as the 200 free relay team took second, while the 400 medley relay team placed third.

Event-by-Event

200 Free Relay: The quartet of Kelly Ryan, Amy Prestinario, Hannah Bowen and Lauren Scott teamed to take the silver medal in 1:34.37 … the B squad of Kim Holden, Courtney Whyte, Sarah Dotzel and Mikelle Masciantonio finished in 1:37.90 and sixth place.

500 Free: Bridget Casey led the Irish with her sixth place performance as she touched the wall in 4:59.89 … Casey was followed closely by teammates Jaime Malandra and Gracie Fredlake, who took seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 5:00.65 and 5:01.28 … Iowa’s Becky Stoughton broke the pool record, winning the event in 4:47.28.

200 IM: Reaney remained undefeated in individual medley events with her gold-medal winning time of 2:00.92, which was an NCAA B-cut … L. Scott took seventh for the Irish as she registered a 2:07.77 performance.

50 Free: Prestinario sprinted to a 23.82, which was good for a fourth-place showing … Bowen touched the pad next for the Irish in fifth place while recording a 23.84.

400 Medley Relay: It was a neck-and-neck race between the Notre Dame A and B squads for the bronze medal … the A team, which consisted of Ryan, Reaney, L. Scott and Prestinario, out-touched the B team of Holden, Lauren Stauder, Sarah Dotzel and Suzanne Bessire to take the bronze with a time of 3:46.78 … the B-squad finished in fourth in 3:46.87.

3-meter Diving: Jenny Chiang took home the gold with her total of 330.83 points … freshman Allison Casareto claimed the bronze as she racked up 312.08 points.
