Women's Swimming And Diving Leads Illinois After Six Events

The University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team is leading the University of Illinois 57-48 after the first day of competition in the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. The University of Michigan is also competing in the meet, but Notre Dame is only being scored against the Illini. Michigan and Notre Dame will face each other in a dual meet Friday, Jan. 26.

Freshman Marie Labosky (Churchville, Pa.) won the 200 individual medley (2:05.38), her 12th individual victory of the season. Two Irish swimmers finished in the top five of the 50 freestyle, as junior Kelly Hecking (Rutherford, NJ) and freshman Danielle Hulick (Galesburg, Ill.) touched in second and fourth place, respectively. Hecking posted a time of 24.29 while Hulick came in at 24.50.

Junior diver Heather Mattingly (Houston, Texas) won the one-meter diving competition with 285.40 points to earn the second event victory for the Irish.

Competition in the meet will continue tomorrow, Jan. 13., at 10:00 a.m.
