After qualifying a record-number of swimmers and divers for the NCAA Championship meet in 2002, the University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team continued its hard work in the classroom. The Irish ended up improving their GPA from last season’s 3.184 winter/spring semester to a 3.256 for this ranking.

To qualify for this honor, the grade point average of the entire swimming and diving team, including all team members on the eligibility list, must average at least a 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. In all, 68 women’s swimming and diving teams met the criteria for the 2001-02 winter/spring semester.

Individually, Kelli Barton and Kristen Peterson were honored for their outstanding academic efforts. Barton’s 3.90 GPA was ninth on the all-academic individual list, while Peterson was 16th with a 3.867 GPA.

The Irish finished the 2001-02 dual meet season with a perfect 10-0 record, giving the squad a 30-1 dual meet mark over the last three seasons. Notre Dame was also ranked as high as 13th in the CSCAA Top 25 and won their sixth-straight BIG EAST Conference championship.
