RODEN, Holland — Notre Dame junior All-American goalkeeper LaKeysia Beene and All-American defender Jen Grubb helped the U.S. womens soccer under-20 national team to a 1-0 win over Finland in the first game of the eight-team Nordic Cup, the most prestigious international junior soccer championship. High school senior Susan Bush scored in the 65th minute for the winning goal.

Irish All-American Jenny Streiffer also started and played 65 minutes until she was replaced after the U.S. went up 1-0. Beene played the entire game in net to record the shutout, making two saves. Grubb anchored the backline, helping to hold Finland to two shots.

The U.S., which won the 1997 Nordic Cup with a sudden death overtime goal by Streiffer against Norway in the finals, next will face Holland on Wed., Aug. 5.
