JAMAICA, N.Y. — The fifth-ranked Notre Dame womens soccer team wrapped up its six-game road stretch with its second consecutive shutout as the Irish blanked St. Johns 3-0 on Sunday. Three different players scored for Notre Dame, which outshot St. Johns 24-4 in the win. The Irish improve to 14-2-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the BIG EAST, while the Red Storm fall to 2-12-2, 1-7-2.

Sophomore midfielder Anne Makinen put the Irish on the board first at 25:03 when she volleyed in a cross from eight yards in the front of the net into the lower right corner of the net. Junior midfielder Jenny Streiffer took a pass from senior midfielder Shannon Boxx just beyond midfield and went down the left sideline to the endline where she crossed the ball to Makinen, who finished for her 10th goal of the season

Junior defender Kara Brown then scored her first goal of the season at 26:16 when she booted the ball from midfield into the box. Red Storm goalkeeper Jen Hall came off her line with Makinen charging to the ball but the ball bounced high off the artificial turf at DaSilva Field and over Hall into the net.

Junior forward Jenny Heft scored her team-leading 22nd goal of the season and Notre Dames only goal in the second half at 70:26. Junior defender Jen Grubb served a free kick from the right sideline to the left post. Heft volleyed the ball from two yards out for the score.

Notre Dame improves to 4-0-0 all-time versus St. Johns with the win. The Irish return home to Alumni Field to close out the regular season against Wisconsin on Fri., Oct. 30, and against Syracuse on Sun., Nov. 1.
