Sept. 29, 2004

Fans of the top-ranked Notre Dame women’s soccer team will have plenty of chances to follow the team via the internet in upcoming weeks, despite the fact that four of the remaining eight regular-season games are away from home. In addition to the usual GameTracker livestats for all home games (and select away games), plans are in place to provide internet broadcasts for all remaining games, both home and away (including postseason action).

The internet broadcasts are available to subscribers to the College Sports Pass ($6.95 per month), which provides internet users with a wide variety of audio and video offerings for several Notre Dame sports (as well as other schools that are part of the College Sports Pass network). Many upcoming Notre Dame men’s soccer and women’s volleyball games are available on College Sports Pass, as are game broadcasts and press conferences for the Irish football team. (See several links below for detailed information on these services.)

Notre Dame women’s soccer coach Randy Waldrum and men’s soccer coach Bobby Clark share a weekly television coaches show, produced in South Bend by WHME TV-46, with video and audio from each of these shows also available to the College Sports Pass subscribers. The coaches shows include game footage and interviews and features with members of both Irish soccer teams.

All video and audio offerings are archived for repeated viewing – meaning that fans can sign up today and still watch the soccer coaches shows that already are archived on the site. Subscribers also soon will be able to listen to the Irish men’s ice hockey and men’s and women’s basketball teams as their seasons get underway, plus the Irish baseball broadcasts in the spring and several other sports offerings over the course of the year.

Fans who subscribe to the Sports Pass are encouraged to test it prior to a live event, simply by playing an archived game (archived on the schedule page for each sport; also see the links via the “audio/video” button on the top bar of und.com).

The introduction of the College Sports Pass system in 2002 actually allowed for the expansion of the und.com audio oferings to include a wider variety of sports. Previously, only basketball, hockey and baseball audio was available to Irish fans.

GameTracker live stats are not part of the College Sports Pass and are free of charge. Some schools continue to offer the older version of live stats (including Friday’s opponent, West Virginia, with a link to those stats now available at und.com).

In addition to the Notre Dame offerings, diehard women’s soccer fans who subscribe to College Sports Pass also can listen to games in the next few weeks involving North Carolina (vs. Miami), Santa Clara (vs. Stanford, UCLA, California, San Diego and St. Mary’s), UCLA (vs. Utah, Oregon State and Oregon), Purdue (vs. Wisconsin and Michigan) and St. John’s (vs. UConn, Villanova, Seton Hall and Pittsburgh). More than 30 Division I football broadcasts also are available each Saturday for College Sports Pass subscribers.

In addition to the $6.95 per month rate, a significant discount is provided for a 12-month subscription ($49.95). A premium service, RealOne SuperPass, offers access to exclusive subscription-only content, including news, sports, and entertainment – with subscribers able watch, listen, and enjoy it all with the web’s best media player, RealOne Player Plus (the SuperPass is an additional $9.95 for College Sports Pass subscribers).
