Women's Rowing Ready To Host Lone Home Event Of Season

Oct. 28, 2010

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame rowing team returns to action this weekend when it plays host to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Friday and Saturday on the St. Joseph River. This marks the first race for the Irish since last competing at the Head of the Rock Regatta on Oct. 10.

The format for all races at the two-day event will be that of head races (or time trials). Friday’s race action gets underway at 5:30 p.m. (ET) with the varsity eights taking to the water. Notre Dame will send five boats out while Tulsa will be fielding two boats. Saturday’s action is slated to get underway at 10:00 a.m. and will feature the four-boat races.

Admission to the races is free to the general public with parking available at either the Farmer’s Market or the Veterans Memorial Park, both off of Northside Boulevard.

The starting line for the races will be at the Logan Street Bridge, with the finish line set up at the Notre Dame boathouse, located downtown from the Farmer’s Market. Any bridge along the river is suggested for the best viewing of the ongoing races.

In the opening event of the 2010-11 season, the Irish competed at the Head of the Rock in Rockford, Ill. Notre Dame was able to place at least one boat in the top five in each of the novice eight, collegiate four and collegiate eight races at the one-day regatta. The novice eight boat earned medalist honors, giving the Irish that race distinction for the third-consecutive season.
