Dublin, Ireland – The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team spent Saturday and Sunday (June 2-3) in Dublin, Ireland on their postseason trip to Ireland and England. Sophomore goalkeeper Mary Veith reports in on the activities in Dublin.
Day Three
Today was a little slower than the past two, but provided some much needed rest. After breakfast we got on the bus and made the three-hour drive to Dublin, leaving behind us the Irish country side with its grids of stone walls and rolling green hills.
Dublin is a city more comparable to home, alive with the bustle of traffic and the crowds of people. We checked into our hotel in the afternoon and quickly made our way to the campus of the University College Dublin where we played our first game (or match, as they call it). We were greeted by Meghan Murphy’s older sister, Katie, who is a Notre Dame alum, now living in Dublin and a member of The Irish National team. She and her teammates provided us with a fun and friendly opportunity to share the sport we love in a country where it is still growing.
We mingled with the Irish girls and exchanged gift items. Among the gifts received from the Irish team were t-shirts, an Irish flag, and a hurling stick. We may have them topped in lacrosse, but hurling is a sport truly their own. Following the game the teams met in an on campus bar for soft drinks and conversation. We’re on our own for dinner tonight and have plans to meet up with the Irish National players afterward!
