Women's Lacrosse's Jen White Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

Providence, R.I. – Junior goalkeeper Jen White (Annapolis, Md.) has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 31. This marks the second time this season that White has been honored by the BIG EAST as she took the same honor for the week ending March 17.

In two games last week, White led the 14th-ranked Irish to a 9-7 win over Delaware (March 26) and a 15-4 BIG EAST win over Virginia Tech (March 30).

Versus Delaware, White made several big saves in the second half in a game that remained tied until the Irish scored twice in the final 3:40 for the win. White finished the game with 10 saves while recording four groundballs and causing one turnover.

In the BIG EAST win over Virginia Tech, the 5-7 junior was Notre Dame’s top player in the first half as she made several key plays including five saves before the Irish offense took over. White finished with nine saves while giving up just four goals. She also grabbed six groundballs and forced one turnover in recording her sixth win of the season.

On the weekend, White surrendered 11 goals (5.50 goals against average) while making 20 saves (.645 save percentage) with 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers.

In two BIG EAST games this season, White has given up just nine goals (4.50 goals against). Overall, her 6.00 goals against average is best among BIG EAST teams and her .584 save percentage is second. White has given up just 42 goals in seven games and has 59 saves to her credit.

White and her teammates have a pair of BIG EAST games this week as they play host to eighth-ranked Syracuse at home on April 3 (4:00 p.m.) before traveling to Connecticut this Saturday, April 6 for a 1:00 p.m. game versus the Huskies.
