Women's Lacrosse Closes Out BIG EAST Schedule At Rutgers

Notre Dame, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team continues its three-game road swing as the Irish travel to Piscataway, N.J., on Sunday, April 28th for a 1:00 p.m. game versus the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The game is the BIG EAST season finale for both teams.

The 10th-ranked Irish go into Sunday’s game with a 4-1 record in the BIG EAST and have locked up second place in the standings behind Georgetown. Notre Dame, 10-4 overall this season, is also looking for a school-record 11th win of the season. Rutgers is 2-3 in BIG EAST play and has a 7-8 overall record.

The two teams have split the two games in the all-time series with the Irish taking a 12-8 decision at home last season. Rutgers won the only meeting in New Jersey during the 2000 season, taking a 14-7 verdict at Yurcak Field.

The Irish are coming off an 11-3 win at Northwestern on Thursday. Top-scorer Danielle Shearer (Jr., Hampstead, Md.) paced Notre Dame’s attack with three goals and an assist in the win. Meredith Simon (So., Flemington, N.J.) added two goals and an assist while Anne Riley (Jr., Marblehead, Mass.) and Alissa Moser (Sr., North Wales, Pa.) each scored twice.

Rutgers last played on Wednesday, April 24, losing an 8-4 decision at 9th-ranked Yale. The Scarlet Knights have won four of their last six games. Offensively, the Scarlet Knights have five players with 22 or more points. Christina Curiale leads the team with 19 goals and seven assists and is followed by Melissa Mosey with 17 goals and seven assists. Their top goalkeeper is Lauren Gulotta who has an 8.32 goals against average and a .579 save percentage.

Following Sunday’s game at Rutgers, the Irish return home to close out the 2002 season on Friday, May 3 when they play host to Vanderbilt in a 1:00 p.m. game at Moose Krause Stadium.
