Women's Lacrosse Announces Fall Schedule

Sept. 5, 2008

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame women’s lacrosse coach Tracy Coyne has announced her team’s 2008 fall schedule. The schedule puts the Irish on the road for four dates and opens with a home tournament on Saturday, September 27 with the University of Cincinnati and Towson. The remainder of the schedule features games versus the top teams in the nation – four-time defending NCAA champion Northwestern, Duke, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Princeton.

“We’ve put together a great fall schedule. It will give us the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the country,” said Coyne.

“We’re excited about how challenging it is and definitely believe that playing such a competitive schedule will only make us better. There is great leadership in our senior class. They have a wealth of playing experience and understand the preparation involved when you’re playing against top 10 teams. We’ll rely on them to set the tone in practice and to take the lead on the playing field. The fall season should be a lot of fun.”

The Irish will open the fall on Sept. 27 at 9:00 a.m., playing one-hour games versus Cincinnati and Towson prior to the Purdue football game.

From there, it will be off to the state of North Carolina on Oct. 10-11 for Coyne’s squad. On Oct. 10, Notre Dame will be in Durham, N.C., to face the Duke Blue Devils. The time for that game has yet to be announced. The following day, Oct. 11, the Irish will be in Chapel Hill, N.C., to face the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Following the weekend versus Duke and North Carolina, Notre Dame will travel to Evanston, Ill., on Wednesday, Oct. 15 to face Northwestern in a 6:30 p.m. (CT) game at Lakeside Field.

The final weekend of the fall schedule is Saturday, Oct. 25 when the Irish travel to Philadelphia, Pa., for the University of Pennsylvania Tournament that will feature Penn, Princeton and the University of Delaware. The teams there will play one-hour games during the day.

Notre Dame is coming off a 12-7 season that saw the Irish make their fourth NCAA appearance since 2002. They dropped a 15-7 decision to Northwestern in the opening round of the tournament. Notre Dame was 4-1 in the BIG EAST, finishing second in the conference and were ranked 12th in the final IWLCA poll.
