Women's Lacrosse Announces 2009 Fall Schedule

Sept. 28, 2009

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame women’s lacrosse coach Tracy Coyne has announced the 2009 women’s lacrosse schedule for the fall. The schedule has the Irish at home for three dates, including a game at the new Arlotta Stadium with two on the road.

“Every year we come into the fall season with lots of excitement & enthusiasm for the upcoming year. Our fall schedule is very challenging but we wouldn’t have it any other way,” said Coyne.

“Competing against the best teams in the country will only make us better and afford us the opportunity to expose areas of our game that require the most attention before the spring season. It will give our younger players a better understanding of the preparation involved when you play against top 10 teams. We’re looking forward to a great fall ball season.”

The defending BIG EAST Champions will open the fall schedule on Wednesday, September 30 when the Irish play host to Ohio State in a 4:00 p.m. game indoors at the Loftus Center.

From there, the team will be on the road the weekend of Oct. 9-11 as they travel to Charlottesville, Va., to face the Cavaliers in a 4:00 p.m. contest. After an off day, Notre Dame travels to College Park, Md., to face the Maryland Terrapins and the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds, beginning at 12:00 noon.

The fall schedule closes with a pair of home games. On Wednesday, Oct. 14, the Irish play host to the defending national champion, Northwestern Wildcats, in a 6:00 p.m. game at a site to be determined. Then, as part of the dedication ceremonies at the new Arlotta Stadium – on Saturday, Oct.17 – the 2009-10 team will face an Alumni team of players at 11:30 a.m. on the new stadium’s turf field.

The Irish are coming off of one of their most successful seasons as they were 16-5 in 2009, won their first BIG EAST championship and made their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to the quarterfinals. Notre Dame finished the year ranked sixth in the nation, the best final ranking in the program’s history.
