Women's Golf Is 13th At Shootout At The Legends

Franklin, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team fired rounds of 316 and 309 on Monday for a 36-hole total of 625 at the 16-team Shootout at the Legends Invitational. That puts the Irish 36 strokes behind second-round leader Kent State. The Golden Flash opened with a 36-hole total of 589 (301-288) on the par 72, 6,122-yard Legends Golf Course.

Kent State will go into Tuesday’s final round of play with a three-stroke lead over Indiana (298-294-592) and a six-stroke lead over Missouri (298-297-595). Illinois was in fourth with a 23-over par 599 (303-296) and Wisconsin rounded out the top five with a 36-hole mark of 603 (302-301).

Individually, Indiana’s Karen Dennison is the lone golfer under par after 36 holes after opening with a four-under-par 68 and following that with a two-under par 70 in the afternoon round. Her six-under par 138 gives her a six-stroke lead over Iowa State’s Louise Kenney who shot back-to-back rounds of 72 for an even-par 144. Three golfers – Minnesota’s Terra Petsinger (73-72), Kent State’s Gabby Wedding (74-71) and Illinois’ Laurin Kanda (73-72) were in a three-way tie for third with one-over par 145.

Notre Dame was led by sophomore Karen Lotta (Los Angeles, Calif.), who is tied for 26th, after shooting a 12-over par 154 on rounds of 80 and 74.

Freshman Katie Brophy (Spokane, Wash.) tied for 44th after 36 holes with a 156 (77-79). Rebecca Rogers (Jr., Alpharetta, Ga.) and Terri Taibl (Sr., Elm Grove, Wis.) are tied for 57th with 158 totals. Rogers fired rounds of 78 and 80 and Taibl turned in rounds of 81 and 77.

Rounding out the Irish lineup were freshman Lauren Gebauer (Columbus, Ohio) was tied for 76th with 164 (84-80) and Shannon Byrne (Jr., Arlington Heights, Ill.) was 79th after firing a 36-hole total of 165 (86-79).

The Shootout at the Legends will resume with the final round of play on Tuesday morning with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
