NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Notre Dame women’s fencing team won five matches and loss to five-time defending NCAA champion Penn State on Sunday at the Joyce Center Fieldhouse. The Irish beat Duke 20-7, Air Force 20-7, Florida 17-10, Ohio State 16-11 and Cleveland State 21-6 and lost 21-6 to Penn State. The Irish women’s fencing team improves to 9-1 on the season. Notre Dame returns to the strip on Sat., Feb. 5, at a meet at the University of Chicago.

Freshman sabre Natalia Mazur led the Irish with a 13-1 record, while freshman epeeist Anna Carnick went 9-2. Senior All-American Magda Krol and freshman Liza Boutsikaris each compiled 9-4 records in foil. Junior sabre Carianne McCullough added eight wins, while freshman Meagan Call chipped in seven wins.
