Women's Basketball To Take Part In Feb. 10 'Think Pink' Promotion

Jan. 31, 2008

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s basketball team will be one of more than 600 schools taking part in the first-ever Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) “Think Pink” initiative on Feb. 10, when the 20th-ranked Irish play host to No. 14/19 Pittsburgh in a 2 p.m. (ET) game at the Joyce Center. The WBCA’s “Think Pink” initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA’s nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. In addition, ESPN2, which will be televising the Notre Dame-Pittsburgh game as part of its “February Frenzy” coverage, will be dedicating their broadcasts to promoting breast cancer awareness.

For the Feb. 10 game vs. Pittsburgh, Irish players will wear pink t-shirts in their pregame warmups and will sport pink shoelaces during the contest. The Joyce Center scorer’s table crew also will get into the spirit by wearing pink polo shirts, and special “Think Pink” t-shirts will be given to the first 750 fans through the door that afternoon. What’s more, numerous breast cancer survivors from Michiana will join the Notre Dame players and coaches in the line to greet the team’s starting lineup prior to tipoff.

In addition, Irish head coach Muffet McGraw has pledged to contribute $10 for every rebound her team collects in the game — the money raised will be split evenly between the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund and the Susan G. Komen For The Cure foundation. A Susan G. Komen foundation representative from the South Bend area also will speak to fans during a timeout at the game, and a raffle will be held with proceeds also to benefit Susan G. Komen For The Cure.

Tickets for the Feb. 10 game vs. Pittsburgh, and all remaining Notre Dame women’s basketball home games, may still be purchased by contacting the Notre Dame Athletics Ticket Office (574-631-7356), visiting the tickets section of the official Irish athletics web site or stopping by the Joyce Center Gate 10 ticket windows on game day.
