NOTRE DAME, Ind. – ESPN released all of its nominations for the 2018 ESPYS on Wednesday morning, as the Notre Dame women’s basketball program was highlighted in three categories. The Fighting Irish are up for Best Team, Best Moment and Best Play, and fans have the chance to select the winners by voting online at http://www.espn.com/espys
Notre Dame is one-of-seven nominees up for Best Team, joining the Houston Astros, Philadelphia Eagles, USA Women’s Hockey, Villanova Men’s Basketball, Golden State Warriors and the Washington Capitals.
Defeating Mississippi State for the NCAA Title is one-of-four nominees up for Best Moment. The others include the Vikings defeating the Saints in the NFC Divisional Round, the Golden Knights advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals and No. 16 UMBC upsetting No. 1 Virginia.
Arike Ogunbowale’s NCAA Title clinching shot is not only up for Best Play, but also the No. 1 seed in the 16-seeded play bracket, which is also up to a fan vote.
Hosted by Danica Patrick, the 2018 ESPYS are live on ABC on Wednesday, July 18th at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The annual event is the one night each year when the sports world comes together to celebrate the best moments of the past year.
