Westy Hopkins Selected To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Westy Hopkins, a sophomore attackman on the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team, has been selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his performance in Saturday’s 9-1 league win over Providence.

Hopkins (Newtown, Pa.) tallied a career-high four points on three goals and one assist against the Friars. He had a hand in Notre Dame’s first three goals. Hopkins assisted on the team’s first tally, while scoring the next two goals to give the Irish a 3-0 lead by the early stages of the second quarter. Hopkins completed his hat trick in the third quarter to give Notre Dame a 5-1 advantage. It was the third career hat trick for the sophomore.

Hopkins has 14 points this season on eight goals and six assists. The assist total is tied for the team lead.

This is Hopkins’ first career BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll citation. It is the seventh time this season an Irish player has garnered the honor. In addition to the seven honor roll accolades, Notre Dame has had three players receive a player-of-the-week award from the BIG EAST this season.

The sixth-ranked Fighting Irish (8-1, 3-0) return to action at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday at Georgetown. Notre Dame is riding a seven-game win streak.
