Weather Plays Havoc on Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships

Jan. 14, 2007

LAS VEGAS – The day after cold weather wiped out most of the action from the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championship, Notre Dame’s senior twins, Catrina Thompson and Christian Thompson, split their respective singles matches on Sunday.

Catrina Thompson, ranked #41 in the most recent ITA poll, had little trouble with Roxanne Clarke of Arizona State, 6-1, 6-1. She improved to 6-3 on the season.

Christian Thompson was not as fortunate in her match against Csilla Borsanyi of Florida. After dropping the opening set, 6-2, Christian answered with a 7-5 victory to push the match into a decisive third set. Borsanyi controlled the final set and cruised to a 6-2 victory. Christian dropped to 2-4 on the season.

Despite sunny skies, Las Vegas temperatures refused to get out of the 30s for most of the weekend.

The Thompson twins were victorious in their only doubles match of the weekend.
