Watt Falls In First Round Of NCAA Singles Championship

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Casey Watt of the University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team fell to Finn Tearney of Pepperdine Wednesday in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif.

Watt, who is ranked No. 63 in the ITA/Campbell’s singles ranking, was downed in the first set, 6-2 by No. 43 Tearney. The Irish junior was able to battle back in the second set by picking up a 7-5 victory to even the sets at one win each and take the match to the third set. Tearney then blanked Watt with a 6-0 win to clinch the match and advance to the second round of competition.

Watt concludes his season with a 12-16 dual season record as he has a 11-15 record at the No. 1 position and a 1-1 record at second singles.
