Walk-Off Home Run Seals Nightcap Win For Irish Softball In Fall Doubleheader

Sept. 30, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A walk-off home run by sophomore Katey Haus (Oceanside, Calif.) powered the Notre Dame softball team to a 5-4 win over Ball State in the second game of a fall doubleheader Sunday at Melissa Cook Stadium.

Haus’ three-run blast over the wall in left center field capped a Fighting Irish comeback with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Junior pitcher Laura Winter (San Diego, Calif.) had command of the circle all afternoon, working five scoreless innings for Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish and Loyola-Chicago battled to a 3-3 tie in the day’s opening contest. The game was ruled a tie following the bottom of the ninth inning due to time constraints.

Notre Dame returns to the field Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Western Michigan in the fall finale at Melissa Cook Stadium.
