Volleyball's Goralski Named Co-BIG EAST Player Of The Week

Notre Dame, Ind. – University of Notre Dame senior middle blocker Malinda Goralski (Missouri City, Texas) was named co-BIG EAST Player of the Week, with Connecticut’s Christine Lambert, for the period ending Sept. 2. The weekly award marks the first such honor in Goralski’s career with the Irish.

Goralski led the Irish to a perfect 3-0 weekend and the tournament title at the Shamrock Invitational held at the Joyce Center. The middle blocker recorded 37 kills and 25 total blocks during the weekend, including slamming down a career-high tying 18 kills Friday night against Southwest Texas State. Goralski, who earned all-tournament honors, also tied a career high with 11 blocks against Idaho in Notre Dame’s 3-1 win against the Vandals. On the weekend, Goralski recorded 3.7 kills and 2.5 blocks per game, while hitting .463.

The 20th-ranked Irish are in action again this weekend as they travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the US Bank/Arby’s Volleyball Classic. Notre Dame will face No. 7 UCLA on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., followed by a match-up against No. 1 Nebraska at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Notre Dame concludes the tournament on Sunday against No. 17 Pepperdine at 1:00 p.m.
