The University of Notre Dame volleyball team has announced its 2001 schedule. The Irish will host the Shamrock Invitational to begin the season on August 31 with SW Texas State, Florida Atlantic and Idaho making up the tournament field.

Notre Dame will hit the road the next weekend with a tournament at defending National Champion Nebraska on Sept. 7. Highly-ranked volleyball powers UCLA and Pepperdine also are in the tournament that weekend. The Irish will participate in the third tournament of the season at Purdue the weekend of Sept. 14-15.

In addition to the traditional BIG EAST Conference matches, the Irish home schedule includes visits from Valparaiso and Illinois State. Notre Dame also will take non-conference trips to Northern Iowa, Kentucky and St. Louis.

After the BIG EAST Championship at Pittsburgh (Nov. 17-18), the team will head to Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex for the University of Florida Conference Challenge Nov. 23-24. Notre Dame will face LSU and Florida during the two-day tournament.

The 2001 NCAA Volleyball Tournament is slated to begin on Thursday, Nov. 29.
