Game Stats

CLEMSON, S.C. – The 18th-ranked Clemson volleyball team, led by tournament MVP Cindy Stern’s 18 kills, beat Notre Dame 15-13, 15-3, 15-6 to win the BIG Orange Bash in Clemson, S.C. With the loss the Irish dropped to 4-2 overall and earned the team a runner-up finish in a tournament for the second consecutive week.

In game one, the Irish out hit the Tigers with a .282 hitting percentage to the Tigers’ .268 mark, but ended up being edged in the end, 15-13. Clemson then used its momentum in game one to notch wins in the second (15-3) and third (15-6) games and win its seventh straight match of the season.

Notre Dame was led by senior captain Mary Leffers’ (Tampa, Fla.) eight kills and four blocks, while sophomore Marcie Bomhack (Waukesha, Wis.) and junior outside hitter/middle blocker Jo Jameyson (Alvin, Texas) both contributed six kills.

Despite the loss, junior setter Denise Boylan (Lisle, Ill.) and sophomore opposite Kristy Kreher (Birmingham, Mich.) were both named to the seven-member all tournament team. It was the second such honor for Boylan in as many weeks after being named an all-tournament selection at the Shamrock Invitational, while it is Kreher’s first such honor of her career.

Notre Dame will look to get back in the win column in their next match, Saturday, September 18 at 7 p.m. versus Miami (Ohio) at Notre Dame.
