Volleyball Crushes Seton Hall In Three Games

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the fourth time in as many tries, the Notre Dame volleyball team limited its BIG EAST opponent to single digits, beating Seton Hall 15-4, 15-6, 15-5, Sunday afternoon in South Orange, N.J. With the win, the Irish moved to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the BIG EAST, while the Pirates fell to 10-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

The Irish received a team-high 19 kills on .467 hitting from junior outside hitter Christi Girton (Muncie, Ind.), while team co-captain Mary Leffers (Tampa, Fla.) tallied 10 kills on .471 hitting to go along with a team-best four blocks. Junior setter Denise Boylan (Lisle, Ill.) added 39 assists and led the Notre Dame offense to a season-high .421 hitting percentage.

Seton Hall was led by Paige Ellertson’s eight kills and Jennifer Mumby’s five blocks, but the Pirates were unable to get their offense going in the three-game match, posting a .075 team hitting percentage.

Notre Dame takes a week off from conference play and will play host to the United States Professional Volleyball (USPV) “Dream Team” in an exhibition slated for Sunday, October 17 at 2 p.m. in the Joyce Center. The USPV Dream Team includes two former Notre Dame volleyball stars, outside hitters Jaimie Lee (1994-97) and Molly Stark (1990-93).
