Twenty-One Irish Qualify For NCAA Regionals

Taking place May 23-25

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Following a successful run at the 2019 ACC Outdoor Championships and strong overall 2019 season, the men’s and women’s track and field team are gearing up for a chance at the NCAA Championships in early June. As announced by the NCAA on Thursday, the Irish will send 21 individuals to Jacksonville, Florida for the NCAA East Regional, May 23-25.

The women’s team will be represented for the 26th-straight season as 11 women compete in a combined eight events while the men have qualified for the third consecutive year and 23 times in the past 24 years. Multiple competitors will dress for Notre Dame in more than one event as Rachel Tanczos suits up for three field events and Jessica Harris, Jacqueline Gaughan and Yared Nuguse appear on the track twice each. Harris and Nuguse both lead the region in the 1,500m race while Gaughan holds the fifth-best 10K time and is first among all freshmen.

The top-12 finishers in each event will earn a spot in the National Championship meet next month in Austin, Texas.
