Villanova, Pa. – Notre Dame’s men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the 1998 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, with the men placing third overall and the women finishing in 12th place. The men finished with 94 points, good enough for third place behind first-place Georgetown and runner-up Miami. The women captured 33.50 points as Miami finished first.

On the men’s side, senior All-American Errol Williams finished first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.69, his second-best time of the season. Senior Jason Rexing captured first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:22.39 to go along with his second-place finish in the 10,000 meters on Saturday. Jay Hofner took home second in the hammer throw with a toss of 177-3, and Chris Smith placed third in the javelin with a career-best throw of 198-0.

Sophomore Jennifer Engelhardt captured first in the high jump with a career-best leap of 5-10, and junior Kelle Saxen placed fourth in same event with a height of 5-4 1/4. Nadia Schmiedt ran to a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 59.28 while Nicole LaSelle placed seventh in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:05.79.
