Sophomore Tameisha King, the Notre Dame record holder in the indoor and outdoor long jump, has earned a spot on the United States roster for the 2000 World Junior Championships. The competition is scheduled for Oct. 17-22 in Santiago, Chile. King earned the roster spot with a second-place finish at the USA Junior Nationals, June 23-24, in Denton, Texas.
King completed her freshman season at Notre Dame in early June. She was an All-American at the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championship and set school records in both the indoor (20-4 1/2) and outdoor (21-1 1/2) long jump last season.
Previous US participants at the IAAF World Junior Championships include Marion Jones, Terrance Trammell, Adam Nelson, Amy Acuff and Suzy Favor-Hamilton.
