Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at Purdue Open

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – In their outdoor season-opener, the Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams took home four first-place finishes at the non-team scoring Purdue Open, March 26-27, in West Lafayette, Ind.

On Friday, freshman Quill Redwine jumped 45-9 1/4 for his first collegiate outdoor win in the men’s triple jump, while junior Mike Griewe (31:51.18) beat teammate Mike Dreznes (31:56.47) in the men’s 10,000 meters by more than five seconds to grab Notre Dame’s second win of the meet.

On Saturday, two-time indoor All-American Jennifer Engelhardt won the women’s high jump with a leap of 5-8 to beat teammate Kelle Saxen, who placed second with a mark of 5-5. Notre Dame’s final win of the meet came in the women’s 800 meter run when sophomore Jennifer Pavela finished first in a time of 2:16.66.

Notre Dame’s next outdoor meet and only home meet of the season will take place next Saturday, April 3, when the Irish host a quad-meet against Butler, Miami and Western Michigan at Monogram Track.
