Complete results for each Irish athlete at the Arizona State Invitational and Purdue Open

The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams began competition this weekend in three different venues across the country. A distance group traveled to Palo Alto, Calif., to compete in the Stanford Invitational, a limited number went to Tempe, Ariz., for the Arizona State Invitational while the rest of the competed in West Lafayette, Ind., for the Purdue Open.
The Arizona State Invitational group posted a number of notable performances. All-American Liz Grow (New Braunfels, Texas) captured first in the 100-meter dash and finished second in the 200 meters. Her time of 11.91 in the 100 meters is a new personal best.
Kymia Love (Memphis, Tenn.) crossed the finish line first in the 400 meter dash with a new personal best time (55.06). Freshman Megan Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) placed third in her first 1,500 meter run of her career (4:33.15) to round out the top track finishes for the women.
Tameisha King (Mableton, Ga.) won her first outdoor long jump competition of the year with a leap of 19-11 3/4. King was an All-American in the outdoor long jump last season. Pole vault specialist Jaime Volkmer (Kearney, Neb.) won her signature event by clearing 11-5 3/4, followed by Jill VanWeelden (Scottsdale, Ariz.) in third place (10-11 3/4).
For the men’s team at Arizona State, Travis Davey (St. James, NY) finished in the top five in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes (5th, 10.91 and 3rd, 21.71, respectively). BIG EAST indoor high jump champion Andrew Cooper (Granville, Ohio) placed fourth in his first outdoor high jump competition of the year by clearing 6-8 3/4, while junior Derek Dyer (Huntington, Ind.) took third place in the discus with a toss of 164-11.
At the Purdue Open, a very deep Irish contingent achieved some notable performances. Junior Dore DeBartolo (Aurora, Ill.) returned to competition in the throws after sitting out the indoor season with an injury and placed second in the shot put (45-8) and hammer throw (171-0). Sophomore Ana Morales (San Mateo, Calif.) crossed the finish line in fifth place in the 800 meters and Jennifer Fibuch (Leawood, Kan.) took second place in the 5,000 meters (17:44.90).
On the men’s side, Josh Heck (Mishawaka, Ind.) placed second in the pole vault, clearing 15-11. Quill Redwine (San Antonio, Texas) also finished second in the high jump with a new personal-best clearance of 6-9 3/4. Nathan Shay (Central Lake, Mich.) also had an impressive fifth-place finish in the 10,000 meters (32:05.88).
