SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Coming off a record breaking indoor track and field season the Irish are primed for the upcoming outdoor season. The full outdoor slate was announced on Monday afternoon.
Kicking off the 2022 schedule is the Raleigh Relays when the Irish travel to NC State on March 24 through March 26 and the Texas Relays at the same time. The Texas Relays will host the throwers group while the Raleigh Relays will encompass all other group events. The Irish open their April slate staying in Indiana for the Redbird Invite. Notre Dame then travels every weekend to a different state in April.
The 2022 schedule has the Irish going coast to coast for meets as they take on several meets in California and several more along the east coast.
The Irish earned four All-America citations during the indoor season, as Rachel Tanczos (Weight Throw), Jadin O’Brien (Pentathlon) and both the men’s and women’s distance medley relay teams took All-American status home. The men’s team took second place while the women’s team took eighth.
Dylan Jacobs ran for a personal best, ACC meet record, a facility record, and a first place time in the 3000m at the 2022 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Mathew Carmody and Josh Methner both took first and second place, respectively, in the ACC Championships 5000m.
Jadin O’Brien had her best performance of the indoor season at the 2022 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships when she took first place in the pentathlon with a score of 4324, broke a school record, and set her NCAA qualifying mark. She later went on to the NCAA’s where she placed fourth.
Nuguse enters the 2022 outdoor season after a runner up finish at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1,500m with a time of 3:35.60, which is the seventh fastest time in NCAA history for the event. In the 2022 indoor season Nuguse broke an 18 year old record with a time of 7:38.13 in the 3000m.
