NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Senior guard Tory Jackson (Saginaw, Mich.) has been named to the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament team, the league announced on Sunday. The selection marks the third time in the program’s tenure in the BIG EAST that an Irish player has been selected to the squad.
Over the course of the three-game stint from the BIG EAST Championship in Madison Square Garden, Jackson averaged 10.7 points and five assists per contest while playing all 120 minutes for the Irish. He opened the tournament dropping in 13 points on 6-10 shooting to go along with six assists and two rebounds in the Irish’s opening round victory over Seton Hall on Wednesday.
Jackson again reached double-figures against Pittsburgh, pacing the Irish in scoring with 12 points which all came from the three-point line as he went 4-6 from distance against the Panthers. He concluded the BIG EAST Championship with a seven-point, seven-assist, four-rebound, three-steal performance against West Virginia, his third-straight 40-minute outing at the tournament.
Jackson joins former Irish players Chris Thomas (2002) and Russell Carter (2007) as the only Notre Dame players to be selected to the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament team since joining the conference in 1995-96. Prior to the tournament, he was also honored with the BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award, becoming only the second Irish player to receive that honor, along with Chris Quinn (2006).
Joining Jackson on the 2010 BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament team are Kevin Jones (West Virginia), Greg Monroe (Georgetown), Chris Wright (Georgetown) and Lazar Hayward (Marquette). West Virginia’s Da’Sean Butler received the Dave Gavitt Trophy, honoring the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, after leading the Mountaineers to the conference title.
