Top-Ranked Irish Renew Rivalry With No. 18 Michigan

Top-ranked Notre Dame returns to action this weekend with another Friday/Sunday home-and-home series against Michigan.

The teams also played a Friday/Sunday home-and-home series on Jan. 5 and 7, with the Irish posting back-to-back 2-1 wins in their return from winter break. That series began in Ann Arbor and ended in Notre Dame, while this weekend will see Friday night’s game will be tape delayed broadcast on NBC Sports Chicago Plus (will air at Noon on Saturday Feb. 17th), while Sunday evening’s game will air on the Big Ten Network.

When the teams met in early January, Andrew Oglevie and Matt Hellickson each scored in both games to lead the offense and Hobey Baker candidate Cale Morris went 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .971 save percentage (stopped 68 of 70 shots faced).

2017-18 Big Ten Champions

With a 2-1 win over sixth-ranked Ohio State on Feb. 9, the Fighting Irish clinched first place in the Big Ten regular season standings and will have a first round bye in the Big Ten Tournament.

The sixth championship in program history broke a streak of Minnesota winning each Big Ten Regular Season Championship since the league was formed (2013-14).

Playoff Picture

The 2018 Big Ten Tournament will feature a three-weekend format with all games taking place on the campus at the higher-seeded team. The tournament will open March 2-4 with three best-of-three quarterfinal series, as the second-, third- and fourth-seeded teams will each host a series.

Notre Dame will have a bye to the single-elimination semifinals, which are scheduled for Saturday, March 10. The highest-seeded team remaining after the semifinals will host a championship game on Saturday, March 17.

White Out

When Notre Dame and Michigan meet at Compton Family Ice Arena on Friday, Feb. 16, at 7:35 p.m. it is Notre Dame’s annual White Out/Wear White game.
