Final Stats Get Acrobat Reader

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Top-ranked Arizona plated runs in every inning and pounded out 20 hits to race past Notre Dame, 16-0, in college baseball action from the Whataburger Classic Sunday afternoon. The Irish drop to 5-6 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 10-1.

Arizona starting pitcher Ryan Perry (1-0) was dominant over his 7.0 scoreless innings. The right-handed hurler limited the Irish to just a pair of hits. Perry struckout seven and did not surrender a walk.

Notre Dame freshman Brian Dupra (1-2) picked up the loss. The righty was roughed up for nine runs, five earned, on 10 hits in 3.0 innings of work. He walked two and did not register a strikeout.

Senior shortstop Brett Lilley led off the game with a single and went 1-for-4. Sophomore Billy Boockford was the only other Irish player to pick up a hit (Boockford went 1-for-4).

Jon Gaston and C.J. Ziegler each drove in three and Colt Sedbrook drove in a pair. Dillon Baird went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI. Ziegler went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs and his team-leading eighth home run.

Arizona did not give up a run the entire weekend. The Wildcats outscored their three opponents by a combined 37-0.

Notre Dame returns to action in Texas next weekend for the Irish Classic at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio. All three games can heard live on ESPN Radio 1490 AM and UND.com.
