URBANA, Ill. – The University of Notre Dame’s women’s tennis team will see its top doubles duo vie for the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional Championship on Monday at the Atkins tennis center.
Quinn Gleason and Monica Robinson continued to impress with an 8-5 win over Ohio States Grainee O’Neill and Anna Sanford in quarterfinal action. The fourth-seeded tandem then went onto dominate Northwestern’s Barnett and Rischbieth, 8-1, for a bid to the championship. Gleason and Robinson will face Michigan’s Emina Bektas and Alex Najaran at 10 a.m. (CT) Monday.
Robinson also rode the momentum into her singles matchup with another Buckeye, Ferny Angeles-Paz, taking that match 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. She will face DePaul’s Ana Vladutu in the quarterfinals on Monday.
Elsewhere in the doubles draw, Julie Vrable and Allison Miller dropped Klara Supejova and Andrea Martinovska (Eastern Michigan), 8-6, in the quarterfinal, but fell to Bektas and Najaran, 8-1.
The tournament will continue on Monday, starting with the doubles championship, followed by the quarterfinals and semifinals of the singles competition.
