March 23, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Tom Usher (Bradford, England), a junior on the University of Notre Dame men’s golf team, has been named BIG EAST Men’s Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the league on Wednesday. The distinction is the second of Usher’s career, after previously being named BIG EAST Golfer of the Month for October.

The junior earned the award on the heels of a 20th-place performance at the Schenkel Invitational that saw him post a three day score of 218 (+2) in an 84-member field in which 17 competitors ranked in the Golfstat Top 100 as well as seven of the 15 teams placing in the Top 50.

After firing a first round 74 (+2), Usher led the Irish rotation in the final two rounds, carding a second round 69 (-3) and a final round 75 (+3). His 69 represented the seventh sub-par round of the season and also was the fourth time he has posted a sub-70 round.

Usher now has been the highest Irish finisher at three tournaments on the season and has earned a top 25 finish in five of the tournaments Notre Dame has competed in this season.

Usher and the Irish return to the links April 2-3 when they head to the University Club Intercollegiate, hosted by LSU, at the University Club in Baton Rouge, La.
