NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the second time this season, Irish forward Tim Abromaitis (Unionville, Conn.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. In Notre Dame’s only action last week, a 93-53 victory over UMBC, Abromaitis scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds (matching his personal best) as he recorded his third career double-double.

Louisville’s Peyton Siva garnered player of the week honors while DePaul’s Cleveland Melvin was named the league’s rookie of the week.

Also named to the Weekly Honor Roll were Austin Freeman of Georgetown, Jae Crowder of Marquette, Marshon Brooks of Providence and Rick Jackson of Syracuse.

Against UMBC, Abromaitis converted 7-of-12 shots from the field and was 3-of-7 from three-point range. He also dished off two assists, blocked two shots and nabbed two steals.

Abromaitis leads the Irish in both scoring and rebounding as he is averaging 16.1 points and a career-best 7.5 rebounds. He has scored in double figures in 10 of 12 contests and been Notre Dame’s leading scorer and rebounder in four and six contests, respectively.

Abromaitis heads into Wednesday’s BIG EAST opener against Georgetown on Wednesday night (Dec. 29) riding a three-game 20-plus point scoring streak, matching a streak he had earlier this season. He has scored 20 or more points in six games this season and in 15 contests during his career.
