Throwers PR To Open Sun Angel Classic

TEMPE, Ariz. — The University of Notre Dame track and field team opened competition at the Sun Angel Classic on Friday at Arizona State.

Notre Dame had athletes in three events on Friday, but the majority of the team is scheduled to begin their events on Saturday.

Senior Anthony Shivers started the day by throwing 63.57m in the premiere hammer throw.

Freshmen Logan Kusky and Shae Watkins each set personal records in the open hammer throw. Kusky, who previously owned a personal record of 54.68, threw 57.29m. Watkins increased his personal record by nearly five meters (previously was 45.92), throwing 50.91m.

Freshman Abbey Kapitan finished 19th in the open hammer throw, recording a 41.21m throw.

In the pole vault, Irish freshman Kassadee Ifft placed fifth with a 3.75m vault.

Coming Up Next

Notre Dame begins the second and final day of competition at the Sun Angel Classic at noon ET on Saturday.

Following this weekend’s meet, the Irish will return to action at the ACC/Big 10 Challenge at noon ET on April 15 at Cardinal Park (Louisville, Kentucky).
