Throwers, Jumpers and Sprinters Conclude Competition At The Sun Angel Stadium

TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field sprinters, jumpers and throwers concluded the Arizona State Invitational Saturday at the Sun Angel Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. Denes Veres (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) claimed the shot put crown as the senior posted a 17.50m throw.

Rudy Atang (Houston, Texas/St. Pius X) bested her previous outdoor shot put record of 15.02m with a mark of 15.69, which earned her a third-place finish.

Women’s Results

100-meter dash: Aijah Urssery finished in 15th place in 12.46.

200-meter dash: Michelle Brown was the seventh-place finisher in 24.89, followed by Urssery in 17th place in 25.38 and Kali Watkins in 35th place in 27.22.

400-meter dash: Brown posted an eighth-place finish in 56.09.

100-meter hurdles: Nevada Sorenson ran 14.00 and finished seventh and Watkins finished in 15th place in 14.57.

400-meter hurdles: Megan Yanik ran 1:02.61 and finished 10th, while Jaclyn Winkel finished 14th in 1:05.38.

400-meter relay: Notre Dame (Watkins, Brown, Sorenson, Urssery) finished in eighth place in 48.13.

Long Jump: Jasmine Williams was the 14th-place finisher and posted a 5.34m jump.

Triple Jump: Williams was the fifth-place finisher (11.43m).

Shot Put: Rudy Atang finished in third place (15.69m).

Men’s Results:

110-meter hurdles: Jarrod Buchanon finished in 10th place in 15.39.

200-meter dash: Edward Hitchler finished in 22nd place in 22.23, followed closely by Patrick Feeney 23rd place in 22.35.

400-meter dash: Feeney was the seventh-place finisher in 47.88, while Hitchler was 15th in 48.74 and Brendan Dougherty claimed 24th place in 49.44.

400-meter hurdles: Matthew Brown finished in 11th place in 54.61, while Buchanon was 13th in 54.77.

1,600-meter relay: Notre Dame (Hitchler, Dougherty, Brown, Feeney) finished eighth in 3:18.03.

High Jump: Doug Onuscheck finished in fourth place (2.05m).

Long Jump: Logan Renwick finished in eighth place (7.02m).

Triple Jump: Renwick was the sixth-place finisher and posted a 14.39m.

Shot Put: Denes Veres claimed the shot put crown with a mark of 17.50, followed by Andrew Hills in fifth place (16.54m).

Hammer Throw: Hills finished 11th (56.48m).

The Irish return to action April 1 at 3:00 p.m. (ET) at the Mike Poehlein Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. The two-day meet is held at the Rankin Track and Field facility.
