NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Junior Jenny Streiffer (Baton Rouge, La.) and seniors Forrest Karr (DeForest, Wis.) and Phil Murphy (Brentwood, Tenn.) have been named to the GTE Academic District V Team for the fall/winter al-large program.The three are now eligible for national honors for the women’s and men’s program to be announced in mid-April.

Streiffer, a forward on the women’s soccer team, was a first-team Academic All-America selection for the women’s fall/winter at-large program last year as a sophomore. She owns a 3.46 grade point average average and is enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters with a triple major in biology, anthropology and philosophy.

In 1998, she helped the Irish to a 21-3-1 record as she scored nine goals and dished off 16 assists. Streiffer is just one of eight players in NCAA women’s soccer history to score at least 50 goals and dish off 50 assists during her career. In 74 games played, she has 51 goals, 56 assists for 158 career points.

Karr was one of six players named to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association All-Academic Team and was twice named CCHA Defensive Player of the Week.

Murphy started all 18 games for the Irish on defense and was the team’s top marking back as he anchored a defense that allowed just 20 goals (1.04 pre game) recorded five shutout. One of the team’s co-captains in 1998, he was a starter for the Irish each of the last two seasons.

A member of the Dean’s List all seven semesters he has been at Notre Dame, including four straight 4.0 semesters, Murphy has 3.908 grade point average in the College of Business Administration as a finance major.
