Three More Irish Football Players Sign Free Agent Contracts

South Bend, Ind. – Notre Dame flanker/punt returner Joey Getherall, nose guard Lance Legree and offensive guard Jim Jones all signed free agent contracts on Monday, one day after six other Irish players were selected in the 2001 National Football League Draft.

Getherall signed a deal with the Pittsbugh Steelers, after considering offers from the Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams among others. Legree inked a three-year, non-guaranteed deal with the New York Giants and Jones agreed to a one-year deal with the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens.

Offensive guard Mike Gandy (third round, Chicago Bears), cornerback Brock Williams (third round, New England Patriots), tight end Jabari Holloway (fourth round, New England Patriots), safety Tony Driver (sixth round, Buffalo Bills), tight end Dan O’Leary (sixth round, Buffalo Bills) and linebacker Anthony Denman (seventh round, Jacksonville Jaguars) were all selected in this past weekend’s NFL Draft.
