Three Irish Tabbed AHCA All-American Scholars

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — A trio of rising sophomores, Cam Burke, Spencer Stastney and Alex Steeves were named All-American Scholars by the American Hockey Coaches Association, it was announced this morning (July 30).

To earn the honor, players must achieve at least a 3.6 GPA in both semesters while playing in at least 40% of their team’s games. Notre Dame’s three honorees lead the Big Ten, which had a total of 12 players named 2018-19 All-American Scholars. It marks the third year of the All-American Scholar awards program with rising senior Colin Theisen earning the honor a year ago.

Burke, Stastney and Steeves each made an impact as freshmen while helping the Irish earn their second consecutive Big Ten Championship in 2019. The trio combined for 12 goals and 18 points in 117 contests for the Irish in 2018-19.

Notre Dame opens the 2019-20 campaign with a matchup against Air Force on Friday, Oct. 11 at the Compton Family Ice Arena. The Fighting Irish also carry a four-year NCAA Tournament appearance streak into 2019-20.
