Senior Chris Cahill has been named the BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week five times during his career.

Three Irish Players Garner Honors After Topping Two Ranked Teams

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Three members of the third-ranked Notre Dame men’s soccer team have earned weekly honors for their efforts in helping the Fighting Irish top two ranked teams last week. Seniors Ryan Miller (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Chris Cahill (Louisville, Ky./DeSales) along with junior Cory Rellas (Plano, Texas/Plano West) were pivotal factors in a 3-0 win over No. 16 Michigan and a 1-0 triumph of No. 13 West Virginia.

Miller was named to the College Soccer News national team of the week for the second time this season. He tallied a career-high two goals in the victory against Michigan on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Miller registered a goal in the seventh and 29th minute against a Wolverine defense that entered the match allowing just 0.68 goals per game. Miller then scored the game winner in the 63rd minute against West Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 6. He leads the team with four goals and 10 points. The senior midfielder/defender was also selected to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for his efforts.

Cahill was tabbed as the BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week for the third time this season. He and the Fighting Irish defense held Michigan scoreless for the first time this season. The Wolverines entered the match averaging 2.62 goals per game. Cahill made a season-high seven saves in the match and followed it up with six stops in the victory over West Virginia. This season, he has a 7-0-2 record with four shutouts and a 0.43 goals-against average.

The senior became the first player in program history to be named the conference’s goalkeeper of the week on three occasions in a single season. Cahill has received the honor five times in his career. That is a team record for any of the conference’s weekly awards.

Rellas earned his first BIG EAST weekly accolade as he was named the league’s defensive player of the week. The center back was a huge force as the Fighting Irish posted the two shutouts on the week. Rellas also notched his first goal of the season in the win over the Wolverines. He

The Fighting Irish will carry a nine-game unbeaten streak into a match at Michigan State on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Game time against the Spartans is set for 4:00 p.m. (ET). Notre Dame returns to league play by hosting No. 1 Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 12 noon.
