Thomas Earns BIG EAST Player of the Week Honors After Leading Irish To 2-0 Conference Start

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – – Notre Dame senior guard Chris Thomas (Indianapolis, Ind. / Pike) has been named co-BIG EAST Player of the Week for the week of January 10, 2005. Thomas shares the honor with Syracuse guard Gerry McNamara.

Thomas averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game while leading Notre Dame to a 2-0 start in conference play for just the third time in seasons. He also shot 75.0 percent (6-8) from three-point range and was a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line during the two-game stretch.

Thomas started the week with a 15-point, five-rebound, five-assist performance in Notre Dame’s conference-opening 66-65 win at Seton Hall on Wednesday, January 5, and followed that up with a team-high 25 points to lead the Irish to a 78-72 win over Villanova at the Joyce Center on Saturday.

On the season, Thomas is averaging a team-leading 15.5 points per game while also hauling in a career-best 4.9 rebounds per contest. The 6-1, 190-pound senior has dished out 80 assists on the season (6.7 apg), which ranks 10th nationally. The two-time captain is Notre Dame’s all-time leader in assists, steals and consecutive games stated, and stands sixth in school history in scoring.

This selection marks the third time in Thomas’ career he has earned player-of-the-week honors, having done so during the weeks of January 27, 2003 and February 16, 2004. During the 2001-02 season, Thomas was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week six times.
