Thirteen Fighting Irish Named USTFCCCA All-Americans

NOTRE DAME, Ind. –Thirteen of the University of Notre Dame’s 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship participants were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) list of All-America honorees Monday afternoon following their performance at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., this past week and weekend.

First-team USTFCCCA All-America honors are awarded to those who earn any portion of a team point at the national championships, or reach an eight-entry final. Second-team All-America honors are handed out to those whose final placing in the national meet range from ninth to 16th place.

Those who participated at the final site but did not place in the meet’s top 16 are listed as honorable mention for the All-America award.

Patrick Feeney, Jade Barber Chris Giesting, Michelle Brown, Rebecca Tracy, Kelly Curran, Megan Yanik, Margaret Bamgbose and Alexa Aragon all claimed All-America scrolls in both seasons during the 2012-13 slate.

Aragon and Tracy earned All-America first team accolades during both seasons. Aragon assisted the distance medley team to an eighth-place team finish at the national indoor championships in Fayetteville, Ark., and claimed an eight-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase Saturday at the University of Oregon’s historic Hayward Field. Tracy secured her first team honors in the mile (indoor-eighth) and the 1,500m (fourth) this year.

Jeremy Rae and Tracy each conclude their career with three All-America citations, after closing out this season with top-five finishes in the 1,500m at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Rae is just one of eight Irish male student-athletes to garner an All-America selection on three occasions in the history of the program. Tracy joins Yanik, Barber and Brown as a three-time All-American recipient.

Rae, a two-time All-American in the distance medley relay (2011, 2012), attained his third accolade after placing fifth in the 1,500m Saturday. On top of her eighth-place finish in the mile during the 2013 indoor national championship, Tracy repeated as an All-American honoree in the 1,500m, first securing a second-team accolade (12th) in the event during the 2012 outdoor season.

Jade Barber (100mH-11th), Michelle Brown (400m-14th) and Carly Loeffel (heptathlon-15th) were awarded second team All-American honors. Barber becomes the program’s first All-American in the 100mH since Dominique Calloway did so in 1997 (8th).

Jarrod Buchanon (4×400), Patrick Feeney (400m, 4x400m), Brendan Dougherty (4x400m) and Chris Giesting were each named as an honorable mention All-America recipient.

On the womens’ side, Barber (4x400m), Brown (4x400m), Bamgbose (400m, 4x400m), Yanik (400mH, 4x400m) and Kelly Curran (1,500m) each received honorable mention All-America scrolls.
