Notre Dame, Ind. – Junior Terri Taibl (Elm Grove, Wisc.) maintained her three stroke lead over sophomore Shannon Byrne (Arlington Heights, Ill.) as both golfers fired rounds of 80 in the third round of the Notre Dame Campus Golf Championship on Saturday. Taibl has a 54-hole total of 236 while Byrne has a three round mark of 239.

In the men’s championship, sophomore Gavin Ferlic (South Bend, Ind.) fired the top round of the day with a 71 and freshman Steve Colnitis (Baldwin, Md.) shot a 72 to take a two stroke lead after 54 holes in the men’s campus championship on Saturday. The duo leads second round leader Steve Ratay (Sr., Arlington Heights, Ill.) by two strokes after Ratay turned in a 75 for his third round. Ferlic and Colnitis check in with a 54-hole total of 219 while Ratay is third with a 221 mark.

The men’s and women’s campus champion will be crowned on Sunday, Sept. 9th with the first tee times set for 8:53 a.m. at the Warren Golf Course.

The women’s top three after last weekend’s first 36 holes were Taibl, Byrne and Kristin McMurtrie (Sr., Calgary, Alb.) and they remained that way after Saturday as each shot 80’s for the afternoon. Taibl (236) leads Byrne (239) by three strokes and McMurtrie (244) by eight heading into the final day of play on Sunday.

The top round of the day for the women was shot by sophomore Rebecca Rogers (Alpharetta, Ga.) who fired a 76 to move her into a fourth place tie with freshman Karen Lotta (Los Angeles, Calif.). Both have a 54-hole total of 246, ten strokes off Taibl’s lead. Lotta shot an 82 for her round on Saturday. Jeanne Murphy (So., Alexandria, Va.) also shot an 80 for the day as did freshman Casey Rotella (Keswick, Va.). Those two are tied for sixth with 248 totals as they head into Sunday’s final round.

Ferlic’s round of 71 was followed by Colnitis’ and Kevin Ricci (Sr., Winter Park, Fla.) as each were one stroke behind with a 72. Ferlic entered the day two strokes behind Ratay after last weekend’s rounds of 76-72. Colnitis was one stroke off the pace with a 147 mark after his rounds of 79 and 68 on Sept., 2-3.

Following Ratay’s 221 was Chris Whitten (Sr., Rockford, Mich.) who shot a 74 for a 54-hole total of 223. Ricci was in fifth, one stroke behind Whitten with a 224 mark after three rounds.

Rounding out the top ten were: K.C. Wiseman (Fr., South Bend, Ind.) who shot a 79 to slide from a third place tie to sixth with a 227. William McCaughan (So., Key Biscayne, Fla.) is seventh with a 229 mark (79-74-76), Andy Vitt (So., St. Louis, Mo.) continued his strong play with a 76 which gives him a 232 total, good for an eighth place tie with junior Brandon Lunke (San Antonio, Tex.) while Andy Kent (So., Lambare, Paraguay) closed out the top 10 with a 236.
