Tefft Named To USTA Summer Collegiate Team

June 11, 2009

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame’s Kelcy Tefft (Enid, Okla.), who just finished her senior season with the Irish, has been named to the United State Tennis Association Collegiate Summer Team.

Tefft is one of 24 players and 12 women to be invited to the prestigious program, which takes place throughout the summer. It is designed to provide college players with exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit in a team-oriented environment.

While competing on the USTA Pro Circuit, Tefft and the other women’s team players will participate in a Pro Tour Transition camp, put on by USTA Player Development, July 6-9 in Atlanta, Ga.

The teams are made up of the top six American players in the final ITA singles rankings, with three additional spots held for the highest-ranked American doubles team and the top American finisher at the NCAA Championships. The final three players are selected by a committee of the USTA National Coaches, ITA Staff and current collegiate coaches.

Past USTA Collegiate Summer Team members include James Blake and Bob and Mike Bryan.

Tefft has closed out her career at Notre Dame by becoming one of the most decorated players in Irish history. She was named ITA National Senior Player of the Year, just the second Irish player to receive that award (Michelle Dasso) and became the first Notre Dame player to earn all-BIG EAST honors four consecutive years. The senior captain was also named BIG EAST Player of the Year in 2009 while leading the Irish to their second straight league title.

During Tefft’s time at Notre Dame, the Irish went 105-20 and finished in the top-20 all four seasons. The team won three BIG EAST Championships and made the NCAA Championships all four years, reaching the NCAA semifinals for the first time in program history this season.
