Midwest Regional Doubles Results – Day Four Get Acrobat Reader

Senior Kelcy Tefft and freshman Kristy Frilling advanced to the finals of the doubles main draw Sunday at the ITA Midwest Regional.

Tefft and Frilling teamed up to defeat Northwestern’s Maria Mosolova and Keri Robison, 9-7, in the quarterfinals, before knocking off Ohio State’s Cami Hubbs and Kristina Keesey, 8-4, in the semi-finals.

They will face DePaul’s Dunja Antunovic and Kristin Gambrell in the finals on Monday.

In singles action, four members of the Irish squad advanced to the round of eight.

Frilling knocked off No. 111 Kerstin Pahl, of Western Michigan, 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Kristen Rafael defeated Irish junior Colleen Rielley when the match was called after an injury to Rielley. Tefft, the No. 43 singles player, defeated Northwestern’s No. 101 Nazlie Ghazal, 6-1, 6-4, and No. 98 junior Kali Krisik knocked off Northwestern’s 36th-ranked Lauren Lui, 0-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Freshman Shannon Mathews dropped her round-of-16 match to Northwestern’s Samantha Murray, 6-4, 6-2, and junior Cosmina Ciobanu fell to DePaul’s Antunovic.

Two more singles rounds and the finals doubles round will be played Monday.
