Tanczos Sets Program Record In Final Day Of Power Five Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Notre Dame track & field program wrapped up its stay in Michigan by competing in the second and final day of the Power Five Invitational on Saturday.

Junior Rachel Tanczos turned in a record-breaking performance in the women’s weight throw to lead the Irish at the meet. Tanczos broke her own program record and also set the meet record in the event with a throw of 22.51m.

After qualifying for the final earlier on Friday, Summer Thorpe and Jernaya Sharp both stood out in the 60m hurdles in the final on Saturday. The duo posted the top two times by collegiate athletes in the event, as Thorpe clocked in at 8.43 while Sharp finished in 8.47. The duo finished third and fourth in the race, as the top two spots went to professional Adidas competitors.

On the men’s side Colton Crum placed second in the pole vault with a height of 5.16m. Edward Cheatham also had a notable performance in the 400m, placing third by crossing the line in 49.17.

The Irish return home for their next meet, as the program hosts the Meyo Invitational on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Loftus Sports Center.
