Tanczos Leads Irish On First Day Of Weekend Meets

The University of Notre Dame track and field program hit the road on Friday to compete with teams from across the country on the first day of the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee and the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.

Rachel Tanczos stole the show again as she broke her own school record in the weight throw for the third time this season with a mark of 22.70m to win the event at the Music City Challenge. That is the longest recorded distance in the ACC and tied for the second-best weight throw in the nation this season.

On the men’s side, senior Logan Kusky turned in another solid performance in the weight throw as he posted a mark of 20.66m to place second in the event in Nashville.

At the Iowa State Classic, the Irish men’s distance runners got off to a strong start as they competed in the 5000m run for the first time this season. Sophomore Matthew Carmody won the event with a time of 13:56.00, the fastest time in the ACC this season, and junior Peter Monahan finished fourth with a PR of 14:06.22, the fourth-best time in the ACC this season.

Both meets wrap up on Saturday with the second day of the Music City Challenge set to start at 11 a.m. ET and the Iowa State Classic picking back up at 1 p.m. ET.
