Irish Women Conclude Second Day At NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas — Three individuals and two relays competed on the second day of the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, Thursday.

Two divers highlighted the afternoon for the Irish as Kelly Straub tallied 281.55 points in the one-meter competition to finish 20th overall. Teammate Erin Isola earned a total of 255.80 points through six dives to take 35th overall.

The 200 free relay dove in first for the team during the morning prelim session, finishing in 1:30.02 for 22nd place. Abbie Dolan led the relay off with a 22.56 second 50 split followed by Carly Quast who recorded a 21.97 split. On the third leg, Lauren Heller finished in 22.67 seconds handing the final leg over to Cailey Grunhard who touched the wall after 22.82 seconds in the water.

Lindsay Stone was the lone Irish swimmer in an individual race on Thursday, completing the 500 free in 4:46.97 for fifth in her heat.

The final race of the day came with the women’s 400 medley relay, featuring Carly Quast, Meaghan O’Donnell, Cailey Grunhard and Abbie Dolan. Diving back in the pool after her earlier relay, Quast’s 100 back time of 53.35 put the Irish in good position. Meaghan O’Donnell swam the breaststroke stretch, completing the second leg in 1:00.85. Also competing for the second time of the day, Cailey Grunhard swam the 100 fly leg in 53.06 before Abbie Dolan punched in a 47.86 second split in the 100 free to the finish.
